The Vernon Township Recycling Center is provided as a service to the residents of Vernon. Please help to keep it clean and green. If you have any questions, please call the recycling center at 973.764.3021.
Effective June 1, 2019:
Shredding services will be offered on Saturdays only (no longer on Wednesdays) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The recycling center will no longer accept rigid plastics. Items may be brought to the facilities operated by the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA), located at 34 South Route 94 in Lafayette. Examples of rigid plastics include plastic buckets with or without metal handles, plastic milk crates, kitty litter buckets, laundry baskets, pet carriers, lawn furniture (plastic only), plastic pallets and skids, corrugated plastic signs, household plastic items such as storage containers, tubs, shelving, etc., plastic toys such as Little Tykes play houses, cars, trikes, big wheels, etc.
Cooking Oil, Packaging Foam and Anti Freeze are accepted at SCMUA at no charge. Car batteries and rigid plastic will be accepted at SCMUA for a nominal fee. Household Hazardous Waste events at SCMUA will be posted on Vernon’s Recycling page as they come up. Please call SCMUA at 973-579-6998 or Vernon Recycling at 973-764-3021 with any questions.
Vernon Township Recycling Center will not accept Heating Oil Tanks or Fluorescent Tube Lighting . Please call SCMUA at 973-579-6998 with questions on how to dispose.
As of March 1, 2016, the recycling center will no longer accept electronic waste. Items may be brought to the facilities operated by the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA ), located at 34 South Route 94 in Lafayette.
Residents may bring their documents for shredding every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is a $5.00 charge per paper grocery bag.
There are several clothing donation bins maintained by two charitable organizations—Retired Peace Officers Charitable Organization and AMVETS—where residents may drop-off unwanted usable clothing.
