The purpose of the Vernon Township Environmental Commission is to provide for the protection, development or use of natural resources, including water resources, located within the township.
The commission has the power to conduct research into the use and possible use of the open land areas of the township and may coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes. From time to time, the commission may recommend to the land use board plans and programs for inclusion in a township master plan and the development and use of the open areas of the township.
The commission consists of five members, all township residents, appointed by the mayor. One of the five members is a member of the township’s land use board. Members serve three year, staggered terms. A non-voting high school student member, whose term will last one school year, may also be appointed.
