Chairperson Report
Discussion on goals for the Board of Recreation in 2010. This discussion included the use of the community building, scheduling thereof and the money involved to run it, plus what it brings in.
Question was raised about the building use at Vernon’s Crossing. Looking into why it was closed and we want to work on getting it back up and running.
We will look into grants to get things going. Jason Rinker mentioned a Trails’s End grant that every town may receive. Unfortunately we missed the deadline so will look into getting it next year.
Recreation will look into an ecotourism promotion which would have lots of potential. Ideas are found on listing of issues and goals.
Possible HS graduates need credits of community service for graduation that will help out.
Possibly ask the master gardeners to beautify the area.
One main event for 2010 is a grand opening of the community building.
Question was raised as to why Maple Grange was closed over the previous weekend. Normally opened early in the day.
Looking to the future we need to play catch up.
Vernon Day events were proposed that needs to be looked into quickly.
Committee Reports
Jason Rinker will head up the Community Building Committee.
Mary Ellen Vichiconti will start looking into events for 2010. One that is already planned is a 5K run. Other ideas included the Vernon Day and a flea market.
