Project Description
Vernon
Township/Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority
Wastewater Treatment
Project Description
The
Project comprises those facilities required to convey
wastewater from Vernon Township to the SCMUA Upper Wallkill
Treatment Plant, provide a new 265,000 gpd capacity allocation
to Vernon Township for its Town Center, treat said wastewater,
and return 265,0000 gpd of treated effluent to Vernon
Township for aquifer recharge. The Project consists of
the following major components:
Acquisition of United Water Vernon Sewage Transmission
Corp. (VSTC) Pumping Station #3, and renovation/expansion
thereof, to allow the pumping station to convey the additional
volume of wastewater from Vernon Township to SCMUA's treatment
plant.
Construction of a fourteen (14") inch diameter wastewater
force main along Route 94, beginning in the vicinity of
the United Water VSTC Pumping Station #3, and terminating
at a connection point with SCMUA's Hamburg Bypass Force
Main, thereby allowing wastewater from Vernon to discharge
directly to the Upper Wallkill treatment plant.
Construction of new treatment units and modification of
existing units and infrastructure at the Upper Wallkill
treatment plant to allow the flow received from Vernon
to be treated at said plant, completely segregated from
non-domestic sources of wastewater (including landfill
leachate), with 265,000 gpd to be treated to a level which
will meet the requirements of Class IIA groundwater quality
standards, with the specific effluent limits listed below:
| Ammonia-Nitrogen
(NH3-N) |
<0.5
mg/l |
| Total
Nitrogen |
<10
mg/l |
| Fecal
Coliform |
<200
coli per 100 ml |
Construction of a new treated water pumping station
at the Upper Wallkill treatment plant site, for return
of treated water to Vernon Township for groundwater
recharge.
Acquisition of, cleaning, disinfection, and renovations
to the existing United Water VSTC lower force main, for
future interconnection with other SCMUA infrastructure
to allow said force main to be utilized to convey said
265,000 gpd of treated water to the aquifer recharge site
within Vernon Township.
Leasing of a parcel, from Vernon Township, known
as the Herold Square site, for use as the site for groundwater
recharge of treated water, and construction of recharge
beds and control facilities on said site.
