Township
Information
Municipalities Bordering Vernon
Warwick,
Orange County, New York
http://www.townofwarwick.org
Bordering Vernon to the north is the Town of Warwick,
which is composed of the hamlets of Pine
Island, Amity, Edenville, Little York, New Milford,
Bellvale, and Sterling Forest. Of those, Pine Island and
New Milford directly border Vernon. Three incorpated villages
also lie within Warwick's borders, Warwick
Village, Florida,
and Greenwood
Lake. Warwick was formed in 1788, several years before
Vernon.
Hardyston,
Sussex County, New Jersey

To the south is Hardyston Township, the township from
which Vernon was created, which was itself created in
1764 from Newton. The boroughs of Franklin
and Hamburg are
located within the township's borders. And, because the
boroughs practically bisect the township, it is almost
possible to pass from the eastern part of the township
to the western part without passing through one or both
of these boroughs. Some call Hardyston the sister town
of Vernon. (Others call Warwick our sister town.)
Wantage,
Sussex County, New Jersey
http://www.wantagetwp.com
West of Vernon is Wantage Township. It was set off from
Newton in 1754 and is the largest township in Sussex County
in area size. (Vernon is the largest in population.) In
the southeastern part of Wantage there is an octagonal-shaped
municipality, Sussex Borough, which was previously called
Deckertown. It was the hope of Sussex residents that a
change in name would result in a move of the county seat
to the borough sharing its name. However, Newton remains
Sussex County's seat of government.
West Milford,
Passaic County, New Jersey
http://www.westmilford.org
West Milford Township lies to the east of Vernon and shares
portions of Wawayanda State Park with us. (While the vast
majority of the Park's land is located within Vernon,
visitors to the park must enter from West Milford.) And,
while West Milford shares a long border with Vernon, to
pass from town to town, travelers must travel around the
Park to the north or south, taking them either into Warwick,
New York or Hardyston and Jefferson Township, NJ, before
reaching their destination.
