Government
Effective January 1, 1998, the Township of Vernon is governed
by the Council-Manager Plan of the optional Municipal
Charter Law.
The
Township Council is elected by the residents of Vernon
Township, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are appointed among
the Council members, by the Council members. The Mayor
only has the powers expressly vested by statute and Revised
General Ordinances. The Deputy Mayor acts in place of
the Mayor in the case of the Mayor's absence or disability.
The
Township Manager is appointed in accordance with the Council-Manager
form of government. The Manager is responsible to the
Township Council for carrying out all policies established
by it and the proper administration of all affairs of
the Township within the jurisdiction of the Council.
The
Township Clerk is appointed by the Council and serves
as clerk to the Council and as secretary of any special
legislative committees of the Council.
