Senior Transportation
Vernon Township and Sussex County Transit have joined
together to provide the senior's, handicap and disabled
residents of Vernon transportation.
To
receive this transportation you must call 579-0483 by
noon of the prior day.
Any questions can be answered by calling 579-0480.
Reservations
may be made up to 30 days in advance.
Service
is available for local errands such as medical appointments,
shopping, nutrition, community services, banking, etc.
Out-of-county transportation is limited to non-emergency
medical appointments. The service area extends as far
as Morristorn, and across the line into Warren and Passaic
Counties as well as into Port Jervis, NY, and Miford,
PA. Anyone 60 or over is considered a senior citizen.
People of any age with temporary or permanent disability,
mental or physical, are considered disabled residents.
Passenger must be able to travel independently or with
their own companion. Bus aides are not provided.
The
service is operated curb-to-curb. Passengers should be
able to come out of their home to meet the bus. Drivers
are not permitted to break the security of the home.
State
law prohibits smoking on the bus. Operating a radio or
CD/cassette player, as well as consuming any food or beverage
on board is also prohibited. Excessively noisy or abusive
language or conduct can result in immediate expulsion
from the bus. Passengers are asked to refrain from speaking
to the driver while the bus is in motion.
