Township of Vernon Manager, Melinda Carlton

Ms. Melinda Carlton stepped into her new position as Township Manager on November 5, 2007. She most recently served as the Executive Director of the Illinois Financial Advisory Authority, which oversees municipal operations in the City of East St. Louis, Illinois.

Ms. Carlton brings extensive municipal experience to Vernon. She earned her Master’s Degree in public administration from the University of Kansas and served as the town manager in New Shoreham/Block Island, Rhode Island. She also served as a county administrator in Michigan, Kansas and Oregon before serving as the Warren County Administrator from 1991 to 1995.

As the Township Manager, Ms. Carlton will oversee the Township’s $24 million operating, capital and utility budget, as well as its departments and employees, including a relatively new sewer utility.

Vernon Township Mayor, Janet Morrison, stated, “She has a firm but resilient style and common sense approach. She expressed from the outset that she wants to be a member of this community and feels it is critical for the township manager to live in the town. Vernon is very fortunate to be gaining such a professional and capable new manger.”

Ms. Carlton and her husband have moved into the Township and are getting settled in their new home. Ms. Carlton is a mother of five daughters and an avid gardener.
