1. Child
Health Conference (Well Baby Clinic)
Provides well care for children of Vernon residents who
do not have medical insurance that covers well care. Includes
a physical examination by a local pediatrician, required
immunizations, screening tests and health information.
Children aged from birth through pre-kindergarten are
eligible to attend. Some families may have to pay a $5
co-pay.
2. School
Aged Immunizations
State required immunizations for school attendance grades
Kdg. through 12 are given free of charge to Vernon residents.
3. NJ KidCare

Vernon Township Health Department is an enrollment site
for New Jersey KidCare. You can obtain an application
and we can assist in filling it out. NJ KidCare is a program
to provide health insurance for New Jersey's uninsured
Children aged 18 years of age and under.

4. Prenatal
and Newborn Home Visits
Public Health Nursing in co-operation with the pre-natal
clinic at Newton Memorial Hospital visits Vernon residents
to reinforce pre-natal health teaching and assess for
any needs and/or appropriate referral sources necessary.
5. Blood
Pressure Screening
Blood pressures are done on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays in
the Health Department from 10 AM to 11 AM. Call at 9AM
to confirm.
6. Home
Visits
The Public Health Nurse will make a home visit to a Senior
Citizen or chronically ill resident for evaluation and
referral to appropriate resources.
7. Cancer
Screenings
a. Female Cancer Screening- held 2x/year- spring and fall.
Residents 18 years and older. Includes a pelvic and breast
exam and a pap smear. $20.00 or $10.00 aged 60 yrs. and
older. Some women may qualify for a free exam which also
includes a Mammography. BY APPOINTMENT
b.
Male Cancer Screening- once/year. Residents 40 years and
older. Includes exam and PSA blood test. BY APPOINTMENT
c. Mammography- 2X/ year in conjunction with Radiological
Associates. Ages 35 years and older. BY APPOINTMENT
d. Skin Cancer Screening- Once/ year ages 18 years and
older. BY APPOINTMENT
8. Health
Fair
Held once/year in September. Includes Blood test with
Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, glucose and other components.
MUST PRE-REGISTER FOR BLOOD TEST. Other screenings and
health information provided free.
9. Influenza
and Pnuemonia Shots
Held yearly in October. Flu shot is $3.00 or free with
a Medicare B card. Pneumonia shot is $15.00 or free with
a Medicare B card. Ages 18 years and older, ages 9 - 17
years with an MD order.
10. Pediatric
Dental Screening
Once/ year, ages 2-5 years by a Pediatric Dentist. BY
APPOINTMENT.
11. Parenting
Seminars
Held 2X/year. Co-sponsored with Vernon MAC. Seminar 1-
Early Childhood, Seminar 2- Pre-teen through Teen. $10/seminar
BY APPOINTMENT.
The Public Health Nurses can assist you by providing health
information on varied subjects, as needed. As each screening
is scheduled, it will be listed on this site.
