Voter Information

Elections in Vernon Township are overseen by the township clerk’s office. If you have any questions with regard to voting or the information which follows, please contact 973.764.4055, ext. 2234.

Who can register to vote?

You can register to vote if you are...

  • a U.S. citizen
  • at least 18 years old on or before the next election
  • a resident of the state and Sussex County for at least 30 days before the election
  • not serving a sentence or on parole or probation as a result of a conviction for an indictable offense (if you are no longer serving a sentence or on parole or probation, you can vote)
  • not adjudicated by a court of competent jurisdiction to be lacking the capacity to understand the act of voting

How to register

For your convenience, we have made the Voter Registration Application  available online. Once you have filled out the application, you can print it out and send it to the Sussex County Board of Elections—it is a self-mailer, meaning it is already stamped and addressed.

You can register to vote at any time throughout the year but be aware that the registration deadline to vote in the next election is 21 days prior to election day.

Where to vote

You can vote in person at your designated polling location (see below) or vote by mail.

To vote by mail, download and complete the Application for Vote by Mail Ballot . Once you have filled out the application, you can print it out and send it to the Sussex County Clerk—it is a self-mailer and already addressed but you will need to supply your own postage stamp. Note that your application must be received by the county clerk 7 days prior to the election. Also note that once you apply for a mail-in ballot, you will not be permitted to cast your vote at your designated polling location in the same election.
