Sustainable Jersey Certified Community

Vernon Township is a Sustainable Jersey certified community—one of only five in Sussex County and one of only 205 in the state.

Vernon achieved Sustainable Jersey certification at the bronze level, demonstrating that the township has made a commitment to sustainability and succeeded in implementing the first significant steps.

To become Sustainable Jersey certified, Vernon had to complete a balance of the rigorous program’s sustainability actions. In addition, Vernon created a green team and did two priority actions by completing a fleet inventory and prescription drug safety and disposal service and twelve additional standard actions.

Sustainable Jersey is a nonprofit organization which assists local governments in pursuing sustainability initiatives that will build a better tomorrow. Its voluntary certification program is free for municipalities that want to go green, save money and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term.
