Potentially Dangerous Dog Violations

Posted: August 21, 2017

The Township of Vernon is required by state law (N.J.S.A. 4:19-30) to provide a telephone number for residents to report violations of the conditions/limitations placed on individual dogs that have been designated by a court as being potentially dangerous.

Violations can be, but are not limited to, the following:

  • failure to display the RED license tag that is required for potentially dangerous dogs
  • walking the potentially dangerous dog without a muzzle
  • walking the potentially dangerous dog with a leash that is longer than designated
  • someone walking the potentially dangerous dog who is not designated to do so

Any non-emergent violations such as those listed above may be reported by calling Vernon Township Animal Control at 973.764.7751. If no one answers, please leave a detailed message regarding the violation that was observed.

If a violation occurs that is an emergency, such as a non-muzzled dog attempting to bite someone, please call 9-1-1 to report the incident.
