A Message from the Mayor
Posted: January 15, 2014
For our friends wondering why our municipal flags are at half mast, it is by my order to signal our respect for the passing of Warren Burgess.
Warren was a fifty year employee of Vernon Township. With his wife Susan by his side, the Burgess family was the moving force that created, developed and manned the Vernon Township Animal Shelter from its inception.
Warren trained his employees and oversaw the well-being of the animals in his care for longer than most of us can remember.
It has been said that Warren was “that guy who loved animals,” which is true, but I contend that he also loved people. His service to Vernon, to his fellow man and to the animals of Vernon Township are a testament to who this man was and I believe we were all very fortunate to have Warren Burgess live and work among us.
On behalf of Vernon, my condolences go out to Warren’s family. May you rest in peace, my friend.
