Free Dinner Presentation for Caregivers

Posted: January 29, 2020

Join the United Way Caregivers Coalition for their free caregiver education program presented by Rebecca K. Abenante, MA, MSW, LSW, ASW-G, healthy aging coordinator with Morristown Medical Center.

This free event, for unpaid family caregivers/providers, will take place Thursday, March 12, 2020 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Barn Hill Care Center, 249 High Street in Newton.

Learn about how aging-in-place involves being able to remain in the home of one’s choice, even as needs change. The decision to stay at home, however, requires advanced planning and not all seniors have a plan in place. Rebecca will share common areas of consideration when helping aging loved ones formulate their aging-in-place plan, including home modifications, assistive technology, health care services, community resources, financial concerns and legal preparations.

Space is limited and registration is required. Reserve your spot by Wednesday, March 5, 2020 by calling 973.993.1160, ext. 305 or e-mailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this e-mail address).

Township Revaluation: Progress Update

Posted: January 10, 2020

The Township of Vernon was ordered by the Sussex County Board of Taxation and the New Jersey Division of Taxation to perform a revaluation program to be implemented for tax year 2020. The revaluation will ensure uniform and equitable assessments throughout the municipality and account for the recent changes in the real estate market. The township is working with Realty Appraisal to conduct the revaluation program.

Introductory letters and an informational brochure were mailed to all owners in March 2019.

Residential inspections began the week of April 1, 2019 and have been completed as of December 30, 2019.

Condominium inspections began the week of November 11, 2019 and have been completed as of December 23, 2019.

Letters were mailed on November 12, 2019 to owners of 1-4 family homes that have not had an interior inspection, requesting owners to schedule an inspection with Realty Appraisal to avoid using estimated information for the property assessment.

Value letters are being mailed beginning Friday, December 27, 2019. If you have received your value letter in the mail, you may schedule your one-on-one meeting online or by calling Realty Appraisal at 1-800-841-6740. Meetings are being held 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday, at the municipal building.

To calculate the estimated tax impact on your property based on the 2019 budget, please visit Realty Appraisal’s website. Please note that the actual tax rate in 2020 will be based on the approved 2020 budgets and the final 2020 tax list assessments.
