Remember Our Fallen, One Wreath at a Time

Posted: November 19, 2018

Wreaths Across America

Once again, it is time for the local Wreaths Across America (WAA) effort this year.

Wreaths Across America began in 2006 as an offshoot of the Arlington National Cemetery wreath project to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach our children the value of freedom.

Wreaths Across America groups will help adorn veteran memorials and grave sites in all 50 states with red-ribboned remembrance wreaths this holiday season.

To learn more about the organization and its mission, visit the WAA website.

Your wreath sponsorship of $15.00 will honor a fallen hero by placing a wreath on his or her grave. To donate via the WAA website, visit the Glenwood Cemetery page and click on sponsor wreaths.

The wreath laying ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Glenwood Cemetery (926 Route 517 in Vernon). You need not sponsor a wreath to attend—all are welcome to participate in this meaningful ceremony.

community tree lighting 2018

Vernon Township’s annual community tree lighting will take place on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Vernon firehouse located on county route 515.

This free event, sponsored by the Vernon PAL and the Vernon Township Department of Recreation and Community Development, will feature a sing-along around the tree, bonfire, hot chocolate and yummy treats and, of course, special guests Santa and Mrs. Claus!

Welcome in the season, enjoy holiday cheer with neighbors and friends and get your picture taken with Santa!

This year, we are doing a “Whoville” theme and will be dressed in character…and encourage everyone to join us!
