Household Hazardous Waste Program

The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA) will be conducting a household hazardous waste event on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at its facilities located at 34 South Route 94 in Lafayette.

On this date, residents can bring for disposal up to 100 pounds of dry household hazardous waste materials and/or 10 gallons of liquid waste free of charge.

According to the SCMUA, it holds this type of disposal event to keep pollutants and toxins that would otherwise find their way into landfills and the leachate generated out of the waste stream.

Acceptable materials include the following:

  • lead based paints
  • oil based paints
  • stains
  • varnish
  • paint thinner
  • muriatic acid
  • sulfuric acid
  • roofing tar
  • old gasoline
  • ammonia
  • lighter fluid
  • kerosene
  • solvents
  • photo chemicals
  • printing ink
  • mercury
  • fuel oil
  • pesticides
  • insectides
  • brake fluid
  • lubricants
  • rust remover
  • chlorine
  • turpentine
  • driveway sealer
  • oil tank fluid

Viking Snowshoe Invasion

Choose a 5k tromp or a one mile downhill dash!

Join the Vernon Township Board of Recreation on January 26, 2019 at Mountain Creek for this fun-filled snow activity and challenge the best of your winter skills!

Runners, walkers or those trying it for the first time…all are welcome!

Check-in will start at 8:30 a.m. in the Biergarten at Red Tail Lodge, the lift will start bringing participants up to the top of the mountain at 9:00 a.m. and the race will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Ride the cab up to the top of the mountain and then choose to tromp out a 5k or master a 1-mile downhill dash. Either event is sure to keep you warm on even the chilliest of days! Spectators can gather by the outdoor fireplaces and cheer their vikings on as they make their way down the mountain! Plenty of hot cocoa will be on hand for everyone!

The fee is $30.00 if you bring your own snowshoes or $90.00 with snowshoe purchase but hurry…supplies are limited!

Snowshoes may be picked up from McAfee Ski & Snowboard Shop at 105 Route 94 in Vernon after November 15, 2018.
