Nominate a Vernon Resident for Senior of the Year

The Vernon Township Department of Recreation and Community Development is accepting nominations for 2018 Vernon Township Senior Citizen of the Year. A senior citizen will be selected from submissions and the winner will be announced at the annual senior luncheon on April 30, 2018.
Nominees must meet eligibility requirements which include the following:
- minimum five year Vernon residency
- contributed services that benefited our community and surrounding areas
- cannot be a township employee or member of the Vernon Township Senior Citizens Committee
To nominate a deserving senior, download, complete and return our fillable nomination form via mail, fax or e-mail. Nominations are due by March 30, 2018.

College Scholarships Available

The Land Conservancy of New Jersey is now accepting applications for its 2018 scholarship program.
“This year we are pleased to be able to provide $7,500 to each of our two scholarship recipients,” announced Rick Simon, trustee and member of the scholarship committee for the organization.
The two scholarships are available to college students who reside in New Jersey and are pursuing a degree in environmental science, natural resource management, conservation, horticulture, park administration or a related field. The application deadline is April 1, 2018.
Potential candidates must be enrolled in a college or university, be in good standing, have at least 15 credits completed, and have an academic average equivalent to a 3.0 or higher. View complete details
Vernon Couch to 5K Training Program

The Vernon PAL and the Vernon Township Department of Recreation and Community Development are once again sponsoring the exciting Couch to 5K (C25K) beginner training program this spring.
Join with your friends, neighbors and kids to get off the couch and onto the pavement! The program will begin on March 11, 2018 and meet multiple times each week, culminating with Vernon’s 5K race on May 6, 2018.
We will be using an 8-week walk/run method to train participants for the 5K race. Ages 16 to 112 welcome!
Highlights of the program include the following:
- Meet three times each week at Maple Grange Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. and Sundays at 9:00 a.m.
- Work with two coaches and a number of volunteers
- Includes the race fee, a race t-shirt and a SWAG bag
This training program is perfect for returning runners who are coming back from an injury, for people who used to run and/or people who have never run in their lives.
The fee for participating in the program is $40.00. Residents can sign-up online at www.vernonpal.com/register.
Vendors Needed for Vernon Day

Vendors are being sought to participate in this year’s Vernon Day & Food Truck Festival which is scheduled to take place Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Glen Meadow School on Sammis Road in Vernon.
Vendor spaces are $20.00, $15.00 for non-profits, free for entertainment and food vendors. Download, complete and submit the vendor application today! Space is limited and applications will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis. We will not take vendors who sell the same merchandise. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 18, 2018.
Mobile Spay/Neuter Program Coming to Vernon

People for Animals will be returning to the Vernon Township Animal Shelter with its mobile spay/neuter program on Monday, February 5, 2018.
This program is not income limited and is available to everyone, offering services at a lower cost. They also offer many other services including nail clipping, vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm preventative.

Health and Wellness Goals Survey

The Vernon Township Greenway Action Advisory Committee, in conjunction with the Vernon Township Department of Recreation and Community Development, is conducting a web-based survey to assess the needs/wants of the community.
