Vernon Coalition to Host “Families Empowered Town Hall”

The Vernon Coalition to Be Drug-Free is hosting “Families Empowered Town Hall,” a program designed to educate parents about the risks of underage drinking and what can be done to prevent it.
Enjoy a complimentary family dinner, sponsored by Sodexo and VTSD, followed by a fun community event, family-building activities and guest speakers.
This program will take place on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Glen Meadow Middle School (7 Sammis Road, Vernon).
April Rabies Clinc

Vernon Township Animal Control will be holding a free rabies clinic on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The clinic will be held at the township garage off Church Street, adjacent to both the recycling center and the DPW complex. All dogs must be on leashes and cats in carriers. Please bring prior rabies certificates and dog licenses if available.

2017 Proposed Municipal Budget Online

Mayor Harry Shortway has made the 2017 proposed municipal budget, which was introduced at the March 13, 2017 council meeting, available for review.
The township council public hearing date for the adoption of the 2017 budget is April 10, 2017.
“We Run for Jimmy” 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk

Vernon Township and the Vernon PAL are sponsoring “We Run for Jimmy,” a 5K run & 1 mile walk on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Maple Grange Community Park.
Sign-up with your entire family and spread the word around the community! Check-in time is 7:30 a.m.; the races begin as follows:
- Fun Kid Dash—8:30 a.m.
- 5K Race—9:00 a.m.
- 1 Mile Walk—9:15 a.m.
Register in advance (until May 1, 2017) for $25 and receive a free t-shirt and SWAG bag. Register on the day of the race and pay a $30 registration fee. Race registration
All proceeds will be donated to Jimmy Pier, a 25-year-old Vernon resident who suffered a spinal cord injury in an accident last October. Jimmy is undergoing physical therapy with the hopes of one day possibly being able to walk again.
Get Rid of Bulky Waste Items in April

The Clean Communities program will be hosting a bulky waste clean-up day on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the DPW facility located on Riggs Way in Vernon Township from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This event is for Vernon Township residents only.
Bulky items that will be accepted include the following:
- appliances (stoves, washers/dryers, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, televisions)
Residents are allowed four tires per household which must be removed from rims. No truck tires will be accepted. No construction debris or hazardous waste type items will be accepted.
Brush will also be accepted at this time free of charge, however, it must be separated from bulky waste items. Leaves will not be accepted. DPW employees will be available to assist residents.
The cost is $20.00 per residential vehicle load. Tickets may be purchased using cash or check and are available at the DPW office as well as during the day of the event. Please bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill for verification.
