Minutes: November 10, 2011
The Vernon Township Senior Board meeting was called to order at 9:35 a.m. by Betty Glass.
All board members
The minutes of the October 13, 2011 meeting were read and accepted by Arthur.
It was suggested that other entertainment and games, besides the DJ, can make the Christmas party more fun. We could have dancers entertain us and games like musical chairs, a game called last man standing (Fran will explain the game) and other ideas that we can come up with.
Signups for the party will be in the big room and the craft fair in the card room.
Mary informed us that she can get the cheesecake for the dessert at the same price as last year at $16.99 a cake for the party.
Requests were made to the board for use of the municipal building meeting rooms.
Application by the historical society for use of the room December 10, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The purpose is to sell holiday gifts. A craft fair and bake sale.
Request was made by the board of recreation to use the small room off the side of the entrance on December 10, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for the purpose of running a program for local children. It will be flower arranging with the children of Vernon for the holiday center.
Both requests were accepted by the board. Betty will inform Melissa of our decision to approve the requests.
Layton informed us that the children’s party was a success with the seniors.
On Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. November 16, 2011, there will be a seminar at the PAL building. The subject will be drugs and alcohol. No children allowed.
The AIM paper gave us coverage of our senior Halloween party and “Building Bridges” event. Layton complained to Melissa that the Wii bowling was not listed on the activities the center has to offer in the article.
Melissa wants to encourage new residents to tour the facility of the adult center and hopefully join their fellow neighbors.
A vendor is coming Monday to check out the coffee pots, which have been in disrepair, to see if repairs can be made.
A new microphone (cordless) is being ordered for the senior center.
With no other business to come at this meeting, a motion was made to adjourn by Betty, seconded by Fran at 10:20 a.m.
Next meeting will be December 8, 2011.
Respectfully submitted, Marilyn Turansky
