Minutes

The minutes of the January 12, 2012 meeting were read and accepted by Fran, seconded by Layton.

Old Business

The spring Vernon Township Senior Citizens Luncheon is set for May 9, 2012 at Minerals at Crystal Springs, Route 94, Vernon. Announcement of the luncheon will be made at the Leisure Club meeting.

Inquiries by the board were made to Melissa is the building is handicapped accessible. There will be wheelchairs available.

At signups for the luncheon on April 16, 2012, we will request that the people attending the luncheon bring a food item for the food pantries. There will be a raffle ticket given for the food.

New Business

Josephine informed the board that there are complaints about the food being served at the nutrition site at the center. Many patrons do not participate because the meals are not good.

We asked Melissa if a letter could be sent to the director of Catholic Charities if better quality meals can be served.

Future suggestions for senior programs were made such as a picnic, Chinese day and a spaghetti and meatball luncheon.

Requests were made to the board for use of the municipal building meeting rooms as follows:

  • Vernon Recreation Committee for the Vernon Youth Soccer meeting:
    3/23/2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Vernon Recreation Committee:
    2/15/2012 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Vernon Economic Development Advisory Committee:
    4/16/2012, 6/4/2012, 11/5/2012 and 12/17/2012 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Vernon Historical Society:
    1/22/2012, 2/19/2012, 3/18/2012 and 4/22/2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The board approved these requests.

Melissa brought up a request by the Vernon teens to have a teen center which can be used after school for teen activities. Mayor Vic Marotta suggested inquiring if they can use the senior center. After much discussion on the subject, a vote by the board was made, which denied the request by a vote of 6 yes and 1 no.

With no other business to come at this meeting, a motion was made to close the meeting by Fran, seconded by Arthur at 10:40 a.m.

Next meeting will be March 8, 2012.

Respectfully submitted, Marilyn Turansky, Secretary
