Old Business:
Pavement to Pinwheel:
Beginner hiking program
Possibly meet from mid-April to June 1, National Trails Day
Meet 1 day during the week, and 1 weekend morning - doing the same hike
Possibly Wednesday, Saturday
Need a trail map
Use the Trails of Vernon Facebook page or possibly start a new one
Harry Shortway said he would like the Rec. Committee to make a brief presentation for the council to highlight all our events in town - April meeting
Spring Event/Trip:
Kelly Brooks researched this, and came up with many ideas:
Off-Broadway shows have tickets starting at $49 each
Potential theaters are Morristown PAC, Paper Mill Playhouse, Westchester Dinner Theater, Medieval Times
Other ideas were bus trips to Hershey Park or Dorney Park
Utilizing a poll to gauge interest on the Rec FB page.
Couch to 5K:
May 5, 2019
Recipient for the funds will be Darius Ziabaklsh

Donations for swag bags
Family will be at the race
Volunteers needed that day
Vernon Day:
June 2, 2019
June 9, 2019 rain date
Volunteers are needed for that day - especially early morning for setup and late afternoon for break down
New Business:
Community Garden plots are available
Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival:
June 22, 2019, Maple Grange Park
June 23, 2019 - rain date
Joyce will be speaking with The Painted Grape for the possibility of a demonstration at the festival, and about being a judge
Turf Field Replacement:
Mishelle stated that the two back fields at Maple Grange are degrading. There is a proposal going before the council to take out a note for $250,000 for replacement
Vernon Farmer’s Market:
This could be a monthly event, taking place in the front municipal parking lot. Looking for vendors, possibly music
Improvements to Flats:
Capital Improvements:
- Get more lighting, which would make the fields more usable for longer periods
- Pavilion has been redone as part of an Eagle Scout project
- Electricity is needed for the flagpole to properly display flag
- Walking path is anticipated by the tracks to lead to a new trail
Bike/Hike/Kite Day:
Possibly September 8, 2019
Will incorporate:
- Kite flying
- Bicycle fest - Owens Station Road
- Need to formulate ideas and a plan for this event
Earthfest:
April 28, 2019 - Heaven Hill Farm
Vernon Recreation’s craft will be painting rocks with encouraging messages and leave them in places for others to find.
Volunteers needed for that day to work at the table.
Movie Nights:
Summer, 2019
Was successful last summer. We would like to do it again, possibly at LHMS?
Senior Olympics:
June 12, 2019, Hopatcong
Mishelle is looking for a bus for the athletes
