Meeting called to order at: 7:34 p.m.

Approval of Last Month’s Minutes
Old Business:
Jeanne was present to discuss upcoming events:
4/30—Earthfest at Heaven Hill Farms
Town and participating boards/committees will be grouped together. Kite flying—booth to be run by the recreation comm. The goal is to create kites out of recycled materials. Vernon Boy Scouts has agreed to help with this craft. MaryEllen and Joyce agreed to help out the Boy Scouts.
5/7—Couch to 5K—Benefitting Jimmy Pier
Race will start at Maple Grange at 9:00 a.m.
PAL is running the registration for the race at racemenu.com which is very user-friendly.
Race include 5K, 1 mile walk, and a kids dash.
Registration in advance $25.00, kids $15.00, race day $30.00.
Volunteers for race should meet at 7:30 a.m. at the pavilion at MG.
The PAL is having t-shirts designed which will say Vernon 5K, and each year, the beneficiary will be added to the current shirt.
3/10—Tricky Tray Sponsored by the PAL, Benefitting Jimmy Pier
Tricky Tray will be at VTHS.
Information about both events will be posted on the recreation committee’s Facebook page.
6/3—National Trail Day Kickoff
Mishelle was coming up with ideas for new trail challenges in order to start the 2017 Trail Challenge.
6/4—Vernon Day
Many repeat vendors.
Thanksgiving—Turkey Trot 5K
Kelly has been investigating possible routes to try to minimize the amount of running on the county roads. She is looking for a local business to be the host for the 5K. This will just be a “fun run”; the registration cost will cover the t-shirts, timing equipment, and any race necessities.
Jeanne will provide the recreation committee with a list of vendors that the PAL contacts in order to give businesses an equal chance to participate in town events.
New Business:
Revitalizing the Flats
New playground will be installed.
Flowers will be planted.
5/27 and 6/7 Jazz at the Flats both evenings.
Mayor’s Wellness Campaign
An idea for possibly a community cook-off (healthy foods).
Ideas for Upcoming Events
Town-Wide Garage Sale
It should be advertised in the New Jersey Herald, the Advertiser. Maps to registered garage sales can be put online, or picked up at the recreation department.
Food truck festival—possibly the end of August.
Community garden—needs volunteers to spruce up the area.
Need ideas for fall and winter events.
