Ordinance of the Township of Vernon, County of Sussex, State of New Jersey, Amending Chapter 5 of the Code of the Township of Vernon Regarding Bureau of Animal Control
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and the Council of the Township of Vernon, County of Sussex, and State of New Jersey, as follows:
Section 5-34 of Chapter 5, “Bureau of Animal Control” of the Code of the Township of Vernon shall be modified as follows:
This provision of the township code will expire three (3) years from the date of the adoption of this ordinance and Animal Control will revert to being within the Department of Administration unless this provision of the township code is renewed.
There shall be, within the Department of Police, a division called Vernon Township Bureau of Animal Control. The division head shall be the Certified Animal Control Officer. The Certified Animal Control Officer shall be appointed by and subject to removal by the Mayor. Subordinate officers and employees of the Bureau of Animal Control may also be appointed and removed by the Mayor. The Certified Animal Control Officer shall be supervised by the Chief of Police or his designee.
The various parts, sections and clauses of this Ordinance are hereby declared to be severable. If any part, sentence or paragraph is adjudged unconstitutional or invalid by a court of competence jurisdiction, the remainder of this Ordinance shall not be affected thereby.
Any ordinances or parts thereof in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed as to their inconsistencies only.
This Ordinance shall take effect immediately as provided by law.
