An ordinance correcting the November general election date

WHEREAS, the Vernon Township Code does not correctly reference the November General Election date pursuant to N.J.S.A 40:45-7.1,

BE IT ORDAINED by the Township Council of the Township of Vernon, County of Sussex, State of New Jersey, as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 5.3G of the Code of the Township of Vernon is hereby replaced as follows:

5.3G. Election; term of office.

The Mayor shall be elected by the voters of the Township at a regular municipal election held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November in the years in which municipal officers are to be elected and shall serve for a term of four (4) years beginning on January 1 next following his or her election.

SECTION 2. Section 5.4C of the Code of the Township of Vernon is hereby replaced as follows:

5.4C. Membership; term of office.

The Township Council shall consist of five (5) members, elected at-large by the voters of the Township at a regular municipal election held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November in the years in which municipal officers are to be elected. The terms of the members of the Council shall be four (4) years, beginning on January 1 next following their election.

SECTION 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistencies.

SECTION 4. If any article, section, subsection, paragraph, phrase or sentence is, for any reason, held to be unconstitutional or invalid, said article, section, subsection, paragraph, phrase or sentence shall be deemed severable.

SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption and any publication as may be required by law.
