Mr. Bates, Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

Statement of Compliance

Pursuant to the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231 P.L., 1975, adequate notice as defined in Section 3D of Chapter 231, P.L. 1975, had been forwarded and published in the New Jersey Herald on February 1, 2013. Notice is also posted on the bulletin board and filed with the office of the Township Clerk.

October 17, 2013

The minutes were reviewed and approved. All were in favor.

Old Business

HPC Members

The HPC has been contacting a variety of sources in order to get a person to volunteer to serve on the commission. Mr. Sokolewicz contact VTHS and Ryan Clarkin, a history honor student, has volunteered to meet with the HPC. He was absent from this meeting.

Glenwood Historic Area

Mr. Sokolewicz showed his presentation of the Glenwood historic district of Vernon Township via his computer. Suggestions were made to the presentation with Steve making corrections. This will again be presented at the December 12, 2013 meeting to the HPC members. The HPC goal is to do a PowerPoint presentation to the people of Glenwood in January 2014.

Policy of Demolition of Buildings

The HPC is concerned that demolition permits continue to be given in Vernon without input on possible historic sites. Carol Gunn-Kadish will review the internet to look for a model to use from other communities to aid in the drafting of an ordinance by the town council. Mr. Bates will also be involved in this process.

Walker Homestead, Drew Homestead

These homes will be reviewed at the December 12 HPC meeting with input from Mr. Borisuk.

Holly Lodge

Mr. Hanke said that he has been unsuccessful in discussing the possibility of recognizing this historic building. Efforts will continue to contact the owner.

Cemetery Plaques

Cemetery plaques will be pursued by Charles Bates and Chris Hanke. The following cemeteries will be included: DeKay, Longwell Drew, Glenwood, St. Thomas Episcopal Cemetery, McCamley and Canistear cemeteries.
