Mr. Bates called the meeting to order at 7:26 p.m.

Statement of Compliance

Pursuant to the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 adequate notice as defined in Section 3D of Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 had been forwarded to the New Jersey Herald on February 2009. Notice is also posted on the bulletin board and filed with the office of the Township Clerk.

HPC Brochure

Mr. Bates asked if there were any suggestions with regard to having 100 copies of the brochure printed. He will check into having them done at Staples.

High Breeze Farm

Mr. Bates asked if there were any issues to be discussed regarding the application for memorialization of High Breeze Farm. The question was asked what the benefit would be to memorializing High Breeze Farm on the town level. Mr. Hanke feels that if it were memorialized the HPC and the Historical Society would have more pull with the state in pushing to have the site further stabilized.

Mr. Borisuk made a motion to pursue memorialization of High Breeze Farm, Rev. Solon seconded the motion. ROLL CALL: BORISUK - Y, CANTALDI- Y, SOLON - Y, HANKE - Y, BATES - Y.

Mr. Bates will prepare a letter to the DEP. Cynthia Davis will have the public hearing on this issue noticed for the next scheduled HPC meeting. (An email was subsequently sent on June 21, 2009, to the Township Clerk, Robin Kline, requesting notice of the public hearing on this matter.)

Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC)

Mr. Wetzel was not present.

Status of Historical Preservation of Cemeteries in Vernon Township

Tabled to July 16, 2009 meeting.

Presentation and Discussion of a Farming District (Jamie Rickey)

Tabled to the July meeting.

Application for Sea Captain’s House

Mr. Bates asked if Mr. Borisuk would arrange for a meeting with Mr. Zaretsky to discuss a possible historic marker for the property.

Historic Marker Site/Structure Suggestions

Mr. Hanke asked the members if they had any suggestions for sites.

Mr. Bates discussed the Drew Family Farm. The new owner contacted Mr. Bates and would like to discuss historic preservation of the property.

Mr. Hanke would like suggestions for sites that have already been memorialized, to purchase and install a marker. He suggested that Indian sites are not marked. He suggested putting a marker at Mastodon Lake or the Simonson House.

Mr. Hanke made a motion to move forward with placing a historic marker at Mastodon Lake. Rev. Solon seconded the motion. ROLL CALL: CANTALDI - Y, BORISUK -Y, SOLON - Y, HANKE - Y, BATES - Y.

The HPC members reviewed the plans provided and agreed there was no historic issues regarding this site.
