Historic Designation Applications Status

Mr. Bates feels that the Stewart House owners will not agree to town historic designation. Mr. Bates advised that he sent letters to the Baxter Estate but has not received a response to date. Ms. Kadish agreed to stop at the house during a weekend.

With regard to the marker at the Canal Road bridge, Ms. Kadish called Jessica at the Park to discuss a marker. They were very interested and wanted more information. Ms. Kadish advised her that the HPC needed to historically designate the property first.

Mr. Bates suggested putting a map together to pinpoint where the historic designated properties are located to be used by the community.

Mr. Bates advised that he has been pursuing the Land Use Board attorney in order to obtain written permission to memorialize certain parts of lots and blocks. The lawyer gave verbal permission to go forward with the separation of cemeteries from other structures, specifically Vernon United Methodist Church.

Simonson House Marker

The members reviewed the proposed language for the Simonson House marker. It reads as follows:

Simonson House
Circa 1770
Built prior to the Revolutionary War
This structure is a fine example of the
Greek style architecture
revealing the prosperity
of the farming community
in Vernon

Motion: Mr. Wetzel made a motion to accept the proposed language, above, for the Simonson House marker. Ms. Cheadle seconded the motion. All were in favor.
