2. Introduction of Wayne McCabe
Dee Franklin introduced Wayne McCabe to the commission. Wayne stated that Ted Laabs had invited him to come and speak. He stated he had nothing specifically to speak about, but offered to pick his brain because he has had over 45 years of historical preservation and planning. He has served on 15 different commissions. He started out by asking a question, we know that there are three commissions in the county, ours, Hamburg and Newton, Hamburg and Newton are both certified local government participants with the state how come Vernon is not? This commission was formed more able to apply, in the years we haven’t been made aware that we should go forth with the application process. Wayne went over many benefits of joining the certified local government. He explained processes of applying for grants and talked about many ways of getting historical areas in the county by using the Hopkins 1860 map. Wayne also suggested that the commission sit with Ron Dupont and see what the differences are, he suggested to check the county historical society and their files, and to check the state archives in Trenton. He was very informative and Dee stated that she will be in contact with him to continuing learning how to become part of the certified local government.
