Reorganization Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Donna Wilson at 7:19 p.m.

Statement of Compliance

The following statement of compliance was read by Donna Wilson. Pursuant to the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 adequate notice as defined in Section 3D of Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 has been forwarded to the New Jersey Herald and published on February 3, 2006. Notice is also posted on the bulletin board and filed with the office of the Township Clerk.

Roll Call of Members

The roll call of members was called and Charles Bates, Dick Wetzel, Andrew Borsiuk, Charles Blessing, Dolores Dobbs, Christopher Hanke, and Donna Wilson answered the call.

Nomination of Chairperson

Andrew Borsiuk nominated Donna Wilson to the position of chairperson; Christopher Hanke seconded the nomination. All present were in favor.

Nomination of Vice Chairperson

Donna Wilson nominated Christopher Hanke to the position of vice chairperson; Andrew Borsiuk seconded the nomination. All present were in favor.

Nomination of Secretary

Donna Wilson made the recommendation for Stacy Zurbach to remain the HPC secretary; Charles Bates seconded the recommendation. All present were in favor.

Meeting Schedule

Donna Wilson asked the HPC if they felt a need to increase the meetings to twice per month. The HPC discussed the idea and agreed one meeting per month is adequate.

The HPC agreed that the meetings would remain the fourth Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.

Andrew Borsiuk made a motion to approve the 2007 meeting schedule; Dick Wetzel seconded the motion. All present were in favor.

Official Newspaper

Donna Wilson made a motion for the New Jersey Herald to be the HPC’s official newspaper; Charles Blessing seconded the motion. All present were in favor.

Member Statements

Donna Wilson

Referenced the HPC accomplishments of 2006 including the nomination of several properties and a consistent member attendance at meetings.

Dolores Dobbs

Anticipating the continuation of consistent member attendance at meetings and seeking publicity for upcoming HPC projects.

Charles Blessing

Looking forward to submitting the historic listing to the planning board and publishing the historic listing on the Vernon website. He would like to set a goal for three designations in 2007 and the establishment of a marker program.

Christopher Hanke

Interested in establishing a process to designate cemeteries and pursuing the designation of cemeteries.

Charles Bates

Looking forward to the completion of the historic listing. He would like the HPC to focus on a realistic number of properties to designate in 2007.

Dick Wetzel

Interested in establishing better communication with the town council.

Andrew Borsiuk

Set the personal goal of attending more HPC meetings in 2007.

HPC Liaison

Donna Wilson appointed Charles Blessing as the HPC liaison to the town council. Charles Blessing accepted. All present were in favor.


There being no further items of business for the Reorganization Meeting, a motion was made by Christopher Hanke to adjourn the meeting; Dick Wetzel seconded the motion. The Reorganization Meeting of the Vernon Township Historic Preservation Commission was adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
