Suggested having a buddy this year; for reminders of meetings, etc.
Unsure of how long he will remain as a member; upset with who the organization is and the way it is going. He feels as if they have no power and treated as second class citizens.
Unless he is able to see a real commitment by the council, planning board, and the members he doesn’t know if he wants to be the chairperson.
He is concerned with the issue of places not being able to be conserved, except cemeteries.
He and Dick tried to save the Board of Education building on Rt. 515, but the planning board didn’t bring it up to a vote.
There had been another issue with a lady in town that wanted to save her house; the planning board went right through.
He will be the chairperson for one year; he wants to get the jobs done.
Spoke to Austin Carew and he is looking for a new face and to keep moving forward.
Suggested confirming via e-mail meeting information.
Had expected to do more last year and would like to see more get done this year.
Noted that chairperson, Donna Wilson has stepped down and is no longer a member.
The ordinance in regards to what can be conserved has changed over his time on the board. They lost the places such as the Weichert House and the last Stage Coach Inn on Warwick Turnpike.
Historically know structures were photographed and named in the Township.
Noted that if there is changed in the design or the exterior of a building then the plans come to the HPC; if in a residential community the plans come to them but if in the Town Center area, no.
Stated that Glenn McLaughlin had been the liaison from the township council; he will attend the next meeting to bring up to the council.
There being no further items of business for the Reorganization Meeting, a motion was made by Christopher Hanke to adjourn the meeting; Charles Blessing seconded the motion. The Reorganization Meeting of the Vernon Township Historic Preservation Commission was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
