Minutes: November 13, 2012
Call Meeting to Order
Craig Williams, Environmental Commission (EC) Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Statement of Compliance
Pursuant to the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 adequate notice as defined in Section 3D of Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 has been facsimiled and mailed from the Vernon Municipal Center to the New Jersey Herald on June 12, 2012. Notice was also posted on the bulletin board and filed with the office of the Township Clerk.

There were no members of the public present.
Land Use Board Liaison Report
- Mountain Creek sidewalks were tabled for a future LUB meeting.
- Advanced Self Storage approved two additional buildings.
- Town Center lighting approval. EC noted that the lighting should be environmentally friendly.
- Solar ordinance will be re-reviewed. Ms. Wexler suggested that the EC should have input on this matter.
Mr. Williams suggested attending the next LUB meeting to make recommendations for the use of permeable pavement, and to discuss well head protection as it relates to future development.
Applications under Review
There were no applications to review. Ms. Wexler commented that this would be a good time for the EC to get involved in review of several ordinances at the LUB.
TGP declined the EC’s invitation to attend the November 13, 2012 meeting, however, they sent written responses to the EC questions posed in the invitation. Mr. Williams read the letter aloud. The letter and responses by TGP were reviewed and discussed. The EC did not feel that the information in the letter was acceptable.
Motion to adopt Resolution seeking that the township council have soil and water testing completed.
A roll call vote was taken:
Ayes: Budz, Baldwin-Carter, Cheski, Holmes, Ruskin, Wexler, Williams
It was noted that another letter would be written to TGP requesting additional information regarding the spills eluded to in their response letter.
There was discussion regarding the attendance of EC members at a recent township council meeting to request permission to develop the bike path without using any money from the township. The council responded that they would get back to the EC. Ms. Budz suggested requesting a written response from the council. The EC made plans to attend the next council meeting and make the request to develop the bike path again. Mr. Williams would be sending an email to the town council members regarding this matter.
Ms. Holmes and Ms. Ruskin spoke regarding the process to get a resolution passed making fracking unacceptable. Ms. Budz suggested showing a movie informing the public about fracking
EC Member Comments
Mr. Cheski distributed information he received at the New Jersey Environmental Conference in Edison, NJ. Mr. Cheski will report what he learned at the conference, at the next EC meeting.
Ms. Baldwin Carter requested focusing on alternative fuels at future meetings.
Ms. Budz spoke regarding lead in the water at Cherry Ridge due to ammunition.
