WEBSITE UPDATE

Jen Lubliner reported that she removed specific businesses and asked the township for assistance to connect with the township’s webmaster for information regarding format, etc. The communication is going through the business administrator and thus far, has resulted in a 3-way back and forth slow-down. Ed DeYoung stated it should be a link on the home page and that he will discuss it with Matt at the BOE.

DISCUSSION

Walnut Ridge School was discussed as to the fact that it is for sale and should the EDC have more information to be involved in that.

All EDC members discussed the manner in which prospects should be shared by the mayor with the EDC and the EDC with the mayor, regarding protocol, confidentiality, and involvement.

Discussion regarding the renaming of Main Street to 2020 Senior Drive ensued. A motion made by Elmer and seconded by Ed DeYoung resulted in a unanimous agreement by EDC members to draft a letter to the mayor and council advising them to not change or take away the name Main Street as it would be detrimental to the value and development of our main area of Town Center.

A motion was made by Ed DeYoung, seconded by Ron Williams, and all members unanimously agreed to advise the mayor and council by letter to not pursue the purchase of Block 391 Lot 12, aka 8-20 Black Creek Drive for open space. This parcel is in the Town Center Zone and has the ability to hook-up to the sewer system. It is for these reasons, the members of the EDC agreed to advise, by letter, against the township’s purchase of this parcel.

The Shop Local Tax Credit Program was discussed. The input from several EDC members who were involved with the inception of the program reported it is not feasible for the township to spend any money promoting the program as it had a lack of interest from business owners to join it. The mayor asked for the EDC to analyze the feasibility of the program and report our findings to him. The EDC will report that it is not feasible. Chair, Sally Rinker proposed that the EDC and mayor put out a press piece promoting the public to just shop local. All members agreed. Ed DeYoung suggested creating an ad that “pops.”

COMMITTEE MEMBERS’ COMMENTS

Jen Lubliner stated we need to address tangible, attainable goals. Ron Williams agreed. Sally Rinker expressed concern that the mission of the EDC is in contraction to some recent actions and agendas. She also reported that Mt. Creek, by way of an email from Evan Kovach, will likely not participate in the plan for expanded Christmas decorations this year, due to their finances.

Sally Rinker reported the grand opening for Executive Insurance will be held on September 12th at 12 noon, at the Berkshire Hathaway Building. And there will be a grand opening for the American Deli at the H and H Shopping Plaza—date to be announced.

Elmer Platz made a motion to adjourn. Ron Williams seconded it. All were in favor.

The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
