Building Department

Change in Building Department Hours: Beginning Monday, April 9, 2018, the Vernon Township Building Department will have hours from 7:00 a.m. (new) to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, in order to accommodate the schedules of residents of Vernon and contractors doing work in the township. Please understand that no other municipal offices will be open until 8:30 a.m. each day.

The Vernon Township Division of Building is within the Vernon Township Department of Planning and Development. Commonly referred to as the building department, it enforces and administers the regulations of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code (UCC).

The UCC is the state’s approved building, plumbing, electrical, fire and mechanical subcodes.

Supervised by a state-licensed construction official, this division:

  • reviews construction permit applications
  • issues construction permits
  • inspects construction projects
  • coordinates the activities of the subcode officials
